Yesterday, many citizens received a message that initially appeared to possibly be a scam. The call seemed to originate from outside of the United States, raising concerns among our community.
The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office received hundreds of calls from concerned citizens reporting this. After investigating the incident, we determined that the call, email, and text message were legitimate. They originated from Iredell County Emergency Communications and Iredell County Emergency Management as part of a new system implementation.
The Sheriff’s Office was not informed of this message prior to its distribution. We want to thank the citizens who took the time to call and report their concerns, as scams are an ongoing issue.
