WNC Nature Center Reopens Following Hurricane Helene Cleanup

Asheville, N.C. – The WNC Nature Center has officially reopened to the public following extensive cleanup and restoration efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene. The popular wildlife facility, which houses native Appalachian animals and provides conservation education, sustained damage during the storm but has now resumed normal operations.

Hurricane Helene brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to the region, causing flooding and debris accumulation throughout the Nature Center’s trails and exhibits. Staff and volunteers worked diligently to repair enclosures, clear pathways, and ensure the safety of the animals before welcoming visitors back.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support from our community and the hard work of our team in getting the Nature Center back up and running,” said a spokesperson for the WNC Nature Center. “Our priority was ensuring the well-being of our animals and restoring the experience that visitors love.”

While most areas of the center have reopened, officials note that some sections may remain closed temporarily as final repairs are completed. Visitors are encouraged to check the WNC Nature Center’s website and social media channels for updates on any remaining closures or modified hours.

The Nature Center’s reopening comes as a relief to locals and tourists who frequent the facility for its educational programs and up-close encounters with native wildlife. The center remains committed to its mission of conservation and environmental education and is welcoming guests back to experience the beauty of Appalachian nature once again.
