IREDELL COUNTY, NC – Residents can expect a classic midsummer weekend with high heat, rising humidity, and the chance of scattered afternoon thunderstorms. Here’s what to know as you plan your outdoor activities:

Friday, July 18

The weekend kicks off under partly cloudy skies and rising temperatures. Daytime highs will reach around 93°F, with a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms developing in the afternoon. Winds will remain light from the west-southwest at about 6 mph.

Humidity levels will hover around 66%, making it feel warmer than the thermometer suggests. The UV Index is very high at 10 out of 11, so sunscreen and shade are highly recommended if you’re spending time outdoors.

Friday Night: Expect partly cloudy skies with a low near 71°F. Winds will remain light and variable, and humidity will increase to 87%, making for a warm, sticky night.


Saturday, July 19

Saturday brings similar weather, with a high near 91°F and another round of scattered afternoon thunderstorms. There’s a 40% chance of rain, and storms may linger into the evening with a 50% chance of overnight showers. Winds remain light out of the west-southwest at around 6 mph.

Humidity will stay elevated at 70% during the day and near 89% overnight. If you’re planning to be outside, consider wrapping up activities before late afternoon when storms are more likely to develop.

Saturday Night: Scattered storms are expected before midnight, followed by mostly cloudy skies. Overnight lows will dip to around 72°F.


Sunday, July 20

Sunday will be the hottest and driest day of the weekend, with a high near 94°F under partly cloudy skies. The chance of rain drops to just 15%, and winds will remain light out of the west.

While rain chances are low, humidity will still sit around 67%, making conditions feel quite steamy. The UV Index remains at a peak 10, so take precautions if you’re out during peak sunlight hours.

Sunday Night: Expect a warm and mostly cloudy night with lows around 73°F and light winds. Some clearing is expected late.
