Waterline Replacement Project Reaches Key Milestone in Downtown

by | Dec 19, 2025

A major milestone was achieved on the Waterline Replacement Project at 1:15 p.m. on December 11, when two construction crews successfully connected pipe segments at 809 Stockton Street. Crew One, working east from downtown, met Crew Two, working south from the water treatment plant, completing approximately 12,000 feet of new waterline.

With the waterline now connected, crews will begin pressure testing and bacterial decontamination. Once the line passes testing and is certified for service by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality, restoration work—including pavement, concrete, and ground cover—can proceed, along with cutovers and service connections.

Some restoration work will begin immediately in areas where construction conditions allow.

Residents and businesses can follow the project for updates and more information at the city’s project page.
