Davie County, NC — A Winston-Salem man is facing multiple felony charges following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a serious crash on Interstate 40 in Davie County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the incident began around 10:45 p.m. on Friday when a trooper attempted to stop a vehicle traveling at 103 mph in a 70 mph zone near Mile Marker 165 on I-40 East. Authorities say the driver refused to stop and continued at a high rate of speed.
Troopers report that the suspect vehicle intentionally veered off the left side of the roadway and struck a patrol vehicle positioned in the median near Mile Marker 171. The impact caused the trooper’s vehicle to overturn multiple times before coming to a rest.
Both the trooper and the driver were transported by Davie County EMS to a local hospital with serious injuries.
The driver has been identified as 26-year-old Luis A. Alamanza of Winston-Salem. He remains hospitalized, but an arrest warrant has been issued for the following charges:
- Felony Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer
- Felony Flee to Elude Arrest
- Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury
- Speeding 103 mph in a 70 mph zone
- Speeding 140 mph in a 70 mph zone
- Reckless Driving
