New York — Walmart is recalling approximately 850,000 stainless steel water bottles after reports that the lids can “forcefully eject” and hit users, causing injuries including permanent vision loss for two people.
The recall involves the Ozark Trail 64 oz Stainless Steel Insulated Water Bottles, which have been sold nationwide at Walmart stores since 2017. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the bottles pose serious impact and laceration hazards.
The issue occurs when consumers try to open the bottles after storing food, carbonated beverages, or perishable liquids like juice or milk inside for some time. Pressure buildup can cause the lid to eject suddenly.
Walmart has received three reports of injuries linked to the bottles, including two individuals who suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye.
Consumers are advised to stop using the bottles immediately and contact Walmart for a full refund. Bottles can also be returned in-store.
The recalled bottles are identified by model number 83-662, visible on the product’s packaging but not on the bottle itself. The product features a silver stainless-steel base, a black screw-on lid, and the Ozark Trail logo on the side.
