On August 5, 2025, at approximately 12:55 p.m., officers with the Troutman Police Department responded to a reported larceny at Lowe’s Hardware.

Upon arrival, officers determined that Robert Sloop, 25, of Troutman, and Kaitlyn Gardner, 32, of Mooresville, had taken items to the self-checkout and scanned a lower-priced item while exiting with higher-value merchandise that had not been scanned.

During the investigation, Gardner allegedly presented another person’s identification as her own and was found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Sloop was arrested and charged with felony conspiracy and obtaining property by false pretense. Gardner was charged with identity theft, obtaining property by false pretense, larceny, and possession of methamphetamine.

Both individuals were taken before a magistrate and ordered held without bond, as they were already out on bond for unrelated pending charges.
