The Troutman Police Department has issued a scam warning involving fraudulent claims about missed jury duty. Scammers are reportedly contacting victims and demanding payment of a fine through electronic methods or gift cards.
To avoid becoming a victim, remember that no government agency will ask for fines to be paid via Cash App or similar payment platforms. Legitimate businesses also do not request gift card purchases or ask for card numbers as payment.
If anyone asks you or a family member to pay in this way, do not do it.
