On Sunday, November 9, at approximately 12:49 p.m., officers responded to a report of a motorcycle crash in the 100 block of Duck Creek Road in Troutman. Upon arrival, they found a motorcycle and its rider off the roadway.
The rider, identified as 34-year-old Richard Pendergrass-Nowak of Troutman, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators determined the motorcycle left the roadway and traveled more than 300 feet before striking a tree. The impact caused fatal injuries to Pendergrass-Nowak.
According to the Police Department, excessive speed has been identified as a contributing factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
