Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest for Firearm, Drug Charges in Troutman

Troutman, NC – A routine traffic stop in Troutman resulted in the arrest of a local man on multiple charges, including firearm possession by a convicted felon.

On February 2, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop in the 100 block of North Main Street due to a registration violation. The driver, identified as Robert Peet III, 24, of Statesville, was pulled over when officers observed a bag containing what appeared to be marijuana in plain view inside the vehicle.

A subsequent probable cause search of the vehicle confirmed the presence of marijuana. During the search, officers also discovered a concealed 9mm pistol under the driver’s seat. Upon reviewing Peet’s criminal history, authorities determined that he is a convicted felon, making him legally prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Peet was taken into custody and charged with:

  • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession of marijuana

Following his arrest, Peet was brought before a magistrate and issued a $15,000 secured bond.
