In the early hours of December 20, 2024, officers conducted a routine traffic stop that resulted in the arrest of two individuals from Chester, South Carolina, and the discovery of multiple firearms, including a weapon capable of fully automatic fire.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. in the 1000 block of Charlotte Highway, when officers pulled over a vehicle for an equipment violation. During their interaction with the driver, identified as 18-year-old Mattison Ramey, officers detected the odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. This prompted a probable cause search.

The search revealed two concealed pistols, multiple pistol magazines, and a high-capacity drum magazine. The passenger, 19-year-old Jaleel Carter, was found to have a Glock pistol concealed on his person. The firearm had been modified with a switch, enabling it to fire in fully automatic mode—a configuration classified as a weapon of mass destruction under state law.

Ramey was taken into custody and charged with two counts of carrying a concealed weapon. A magistrate set her bond at $2,500 secured. Carter was charged with possession of a weapon of mass destruction and carrying a concealed weapon. His bond was set at $10,000 secured.

Law enforcement officials emphasized the seriousness of the charges, particularly regarding the modified firearm, and highlighted the importance of proactive measures to prevent such weapons from posing a threat to public safety.
