WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – April 3, 2025 – T.W. Garner Food Company has issued a voluntary recall of select lots of its Texas Pete® Habanero Buffalo Sauce and Texas Pete® Sweet CHAbanero Sauce due to labeling concerns.
According to the company, some bottles labeled as Habanero Buffalo Sauce may contain Sriracha Sauce instead. The Sriracha Sauce includes sodium bisulfite, a preservative that contains sulfites, which are not declared on the Habanero Buffalo Sauce label. Individuals with sulfite allergies or sensitivities may face serious or life-threatening reactions if they consume the mislabeled product.
In a separate issue, the Sweet CHAbanero Sauce is being recalled because certain lots do not contain the labeled ingredient “Aged Peppers,” which typically includes red habanero peppers, salt, and vinegar.
No illnesses or adverse reactions have been reported in connection with either product at this time. The issues were discovered during the company’s internal quality testing process.
The recalled products were distributed between February 5, 2025, and March 26, 2025, and were shipped to retail locations and distribution centers in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, North Carolina, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, and Vermont.
Consumers can identify the affected products by checking the size, UPC, and use-by dates as listed below:

Consumers are advised to dispose of the affected products or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
