Motorists across North Carolina can expect an increased law enforcement presence on roads this week as part of a coordinated effort to address speed-related traffic violations. The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program, in partnership with local and state law enforcement agencies, has launched a weeklong campaign titled “Speeding Catches Up With You.”
The initiative runs from Tuesday, July 22nd through Sunday, July 27th. During this time, officers will be actively patrolling highways and local roads with a focus on stopping drivers who exceed posted speed limits or engage in aggressive driving behaviors.
Speeding remains one of the top contributing factors in traffic crashes across the state. In 2024 alone, nearly 400 people in North Carolina lost their lives in speed-related incidents, and thousands more were injured.
According to officials, the goal of the campaign is to increase awareness about the dangers of speeding while encouraging safer driving habits. The effort is part of a broader strategy by the Governor’s Highway Safety Program to promote road safety through education, enforcement, and community partnerships.
“Speeding Catches Up With You” is one of several initiatives the program supports throughout the year to reduce traffic-related injuries and fatalities. Law enforcement agencies are urging all drivers to slow down, follow traffic laws, and help make North Carolina’s roads safer for everyone.
