After a year’s hiatus caused by Hurricane Helene, Statesville’s Night Out made a lively return to downtown on Thursday, October 2, 2025. The annual event, hosted by the Statesville Police Department, drew hundreds of residents for an evening of laughter, food, and fellowship — all focused on strengthening the bond between law enforcement and the community.
More than 50 community partners joined officers to share resources, provide giveaways, and highlight local services. Families enjoyed games, bounce houses, and a crowd favorite: free funnel cakes and hamburgers fresh off the grill. From the first arrivals to the final conversations at sunset, the night was filled with smiles, handshakes, and positive connections between residents and officers.
Although National Night Out is typically held in August, Statesville’s version takes place in October to take advantage of cooler weather and to coincide with National Crime Prevention Month.
Police Chief David Onley said the event reflects the department’s broader goal of building trust and communication year-round. “Events like this remind everyone that our officers are real people — parents, neighbors, and friends — who care about this community,” Onley said.
Throughout the year, the Statesville Police Department continues to host smaller neighborhood gatherings to encourage open dialogue and strengthen community ties.
The department thanked all partners, volunteers, and residents who made this year’s Night Out a success, emphasizing the city’s shared commitment to safety and unity. Photos from the event and upcoming opportunities to connect with SPD are available on the department’s events calendar.
