Dewan Lafaye Alexander, 48, of East Greenbriar Road in Statesville, was arrested on Sunday, May 11, by officers with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office. She is facing multiple charges, including felony possession of ecstasy and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substances. In addition, she is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, and possession of marijuana paraphernalia. Alexander also received a citation for expired registration and inspection.
According to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office, the arrest occurred following a traffic stop conducted by a deputy with the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Team. The deputy stopped a Honda Accord traveling west on Industrial Drive due to an expired registration. During the stop, the deputy reported detecting the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Alexander, identified as the driver, told the deputy she had smoked marijuana in the car earlier that day.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of four dosage units of ecstasy and a small quantity of marijuana, according to the report. Alexander was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Her bond was set at $3,500 secured. She is scheduled to appear in District Court on May 28.
