The City of Statesville is inviting residents to apply for three open seats on its Board of Adjustment, a vital quasi-judicial body responsible for reviewing zoning appeals and variance requests.
The current vacancies include two seats for individuals who live within the city limits and one seat designated for a resident of the Extraterritorial Jurisdiction (ETJ) — an area within Iredell County that lies outside the city limits but falls under the city’s zoning authority.
The Board of Adjustment meets as needed, typically on the first Tuesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. at City Hall. Board members serve three-year terms. City representatives are appointed by the Statesville City Council, while the ETJ representative is appointed by the Iredell County Board of Commissioners.
Applicants must be residents of either the City of Statesville or the designated ETJ area and be able to serve impartially while attending scheduled meetings. The board’s responsibilities include hearing sworn testimony, evaluating evidence, and issuing decisions in accordance with the city’s zoning ordinance.
