At approximately 12:25 p.m. Thursday, the Statesville Police Department responded to a report of a shooting in Downtown Statesville. The caller claimed that a person had been shot and was lying in the street.
Upon arrival, officers found no evidence to support the report. After further investigation, the Criminal Investigations Division traced the call back to an adolescent who later admitted to making the false report.
Authorities have confirmed that there was never a shooting, and all school lockdowns that were initiated as a precaution have been lifted.
Law enforcement officials emphasize that community safety remains a top priority and appreciate the public’s cooperation during the response to the incident.
