GREENSBORO, N.C. (September 26, 2025) – Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the 2022 homicide of a North Carolina A&T State University freshman who was a native of Statesville.
The Greensboro Police Department’s Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) took 20-year-old Rishon Elias Weaver into custody without incident on Thursday. He is charged with first-degree murder in the death of 19-year-old Kaneycha Turner.
Turner was fatally wounded during a mass shooting on October 25, 2022, in the 900 block of Circle Drive. Six people were shot during the incident, including 15-year-old Ronaldlee Snipes, who also died from his injuries. The other four victims were treated at a local hospital.
Police say the shooting did not occur on the North Carolina A&T campus and was not connected to any university-sanctioned event.
Officials say the investigation remains active and is a priority for the Greensboro Police Department.
