Statesville Man Wanted on Multiple Charges After Morganton Incident

A Statesville man is facing multiple charges following an incident in Morganton early Sunday morning.

According to Morganton Public Safety, 23-year-old Jeffery Thomas Owensby of Lamberth Ridge Drive in Statesville has been charged with felony breaking and entering with intent to terrorize or injure. He also faces misdemeanor charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault by pointing a gun, communicating threats, and discharging a firearm inside city limits.

Authorities say the incident occurred around 1:40 a.m. Sunday when officers responded to a report of shots fired at a residence on Johnson Street. Investigators believe Owensby entered the home in an attempt to retrieve his property. During the incident, he allegedly brandished a firearm while making threats before firing a round outside in an unknown direction. A spent shell casing was found in the parking area.

Officers attempted to locate Owensby, but he was believed to have returned to the Statesville area. As of Monday morning, he had not been apprehended. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.
