A Statesville man is facing multiple charges following an encounter with Iredell County Sheriff’s Deputies during a traffic checkpoint late last week.
Deputies arrested 33-year-old Kelley Lamont Allison, Jr. of Cline Street in Statesville on felony charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of a Schedule I controlled substance. He also faces misdemeanor charges including carrying a concealed weapon, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest occurred late Friday evening, April 4, during a motor vehicle violation checkpoint on Highway 64 West near Tarlton Road. Deputies reported seeing a vehicle abruptly turn around, apparently to avoid the checkpoint. A short time later, a Deputy located the same vehicle parked in a driveway on Tarlton Road with its headlights off.
Upon approaching the vehicle, the Deputy reported detecting a strong odor of marijuana and observed an empty handgun holster in plain view. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 10 dosage units of MDMA, a small amount of marijuana, and a handgun. According to law enforcement, Allison is a convicted felon and is prohibited from possessing firearms.
Allison was booked into the Iredell County Detention Center with bond set at $25,000 secured. He is scheduled to appear in District Court on April 25.
At the time of his arrest, Allison was on probation for felony charges including possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, possession with intent to sell a Schedule VI controlled substance, and offering bribes.
