An Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy assigned to the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Team conducted a traffic stop Saturday, Dec. 13, near the intersection of Hickory Highway and Brick Yard Road after observing a Hyundai Elantra displaying a fictitious license plate.
During the stop, the driver was identified as Gary Wayne Woodard, 54, of Statesville. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the deputy determined that Woodard’s driver’s license was suspended and that he has a prior felony conviction. A box of handgun ammunition was reportedly visible inside the vehicle.
Deputies subsequently searched the vehicle and located a handgun, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia, authorities said.
Woodard was taken into custody and transported to the Iredell County Detention Center. Magistrate Callejas set a $20,000 secured bond on the following charges: felony possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; misdemeanor possession of marijuana; misdemeanor possession of marijuana paraphernalia; misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia; driving while license revoked; and displaying a fictitious registration plate.
All charges are allegations, and Woodard is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
