Statesville Fire Department Announces Promotions

STATESVILLE, NC — The Statesville Fire Department has announced a series of promotions within its command staff and officer ranks, effective January 5, 2026. The changes reflect the department’s commitment to leadership development, operational excellence, and community service.

Aaron Kennedy has been promoted from Battalion Chief to Operations Deputy Chief. Kennedy, who joined the department in May 2011, previously served as Lieutenant, Captain, and Battalion Chief. In his new role, he will oversee daily operations, manage emergency responses, develop operational plans, and support community engagement and safety initiatives.

Captain Brandon Wiggins has been promoted to Battalion Chief. Since joining in 2011, Wiggins has advanced through the ranks to Lieutenant and Captain. He will now manage emergency responses and daily operations for his assigned shift, oversee multiple fire stations, lead incident responses, and manage personnel.

Lieutenant Zach Hinson has been promoted to Captain. Hinson, who joined the department in January 2018, previously served as Lieutenant and Senior Lieutenant. He will now lead a crew of five firefighters, ensure training and safety standards, and oversee equipment and communication during emergency responses.

Senior Firefighter Richard Gregory has been promoted to Lieutenant. Gregory, hired in January 2019, will now be responsible for driving and maintaining fire apparatus, managing operations in the Captain’s absence, and supporting the team during emergencies.

Fire Chief Glenn Kurfees praised the newly promoted officers for their leadership, dedication, and contributions to the department. He said these promotions strengthen the department’s ability to provide professional, reliable, and responsive service to the Statesville community.
