STATESVILLE — The Statesville City Council on Monday evening unanimously approved the rezoning request for Compass Data Centers, clearing the way for a major new development in the western part of the city.

The planned facility will span 270,000 square feet on 330 acres and represents an investment of over $1 billion in the region.

During the public hearing, 27 residents signed up to speak, though only a small number voiced support for the project. Despite mixed public sentiment, the council voted in favor of the rezoning, signaling strong local government backing for the project.

Officials say the data center will bring significant economic development opportunities to the area, though exact employment figures and construction timelines have not yet been detailed.
