Statesville City Council Approves Economic Incentive for Local Manufacturer

Statesville City Council on Monday approved an economic incentive of $219,115 for GMS Fabrication Inc., a manufacturing company planning to expand its local facility. The grant will be paid in installments of $43,823 over five years. GMS Fabrication, which operates a facility on West Aviation Drive, specializes in building race cars and hot rods.

Jenn Bosser, president and CEO of the Iredell Economic Development Council, said the company currently employs 22 people and plans to add 25 more positions with the expansion. The average salary at the company is $81,400. Council members voted unanimously to approve the incentive.

In other business, council members approved the first reading of a request to rezone two parcels on Bond Street from Heavy Industrial to High-Density Single-Family Residential. The parcels are currently vacant, with only remnants of previously burned dwellings. Plans call for the construction of new homes on the site. The rezoning request was approved unanimously.
