The Statesville Regional Airport hosted a special Building Plaque Unveiling luncheon last week to recognize the City Council members who helped advance construction of the airport’s new terminal building. The event, held ahead of the recent council transition, honored outgoing officials Jap Johnson, Steve Johnson, Joe Hudson, Kim Wasson, and Mayor Costi Kutteh, along with current members David Jones, Doris Allison, Amy Lawton, and Lisa Pearson.
The unveiling marked a key milestone for one of the city’s largest aviation investments and acknowledged the leadership that pushed the project forward. City staff, elected officials, and project partners attended the event, reflecting on the terminal’s progress and the role it will play in strengthening air travel options and economic development in Statesville.
The City of Statesville is constructing a new three-level airport terminal designed to improve the experience for pilots, travelers, and local businesses. The $15 million project expands terminal space, adds offices to support future growth, and includes a third-floor restaurant area that will serve as a new amenity and future revenue source.
