Statesville Advances Emergency Sinkhole Repair

by | Apr 11, 2025

The City of Statesville is continuing its efforts to address a sinkhole and underground infrastructure failure at the intersection of Tradd and East Front Street. The emergency repair project aims to restore critical sanitary and storm sewer systems while also improving public safety and reducing the risk of future flooding in the area.

As of April 9, 2025, the city has issued a formal bid advertisement for the project. The advertisement will remain active for the required nine-day posting period, marking a significant milestone in the process of selecting a qualified contractor for the work.

The upcoming project timeline is as follows:

  • April 18, 2025: Bid posting goes live for a two-week period
  • April 22, 2025: Pre-bid meeting scheduled at 2:00 p.m. to address contractor questions
  • May 2, 2025: Bid opening and tentative announcement of winning contractor
  • May 5, 2025: Bid winner presented to City Council for approval
  • Week of May 5, 2025: Contract execution, pending Council approval

City officials noted that at least three bids are needed in order to proceed with the scheduled May 2 opening. If fewer than three are received, the bid period will be extended by 7 to 10 days, after which all bids will be opened and read.

Once the contract is executed, the selected contractor will provide the required bonds, and the city will issue a formal Notice to Proceed. This administrative phase typically takes about three weeks. Upon receiving the Notice to Proceed, the contractor will have 45 calendar days to complete the work.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed as the city continues to move forward with this critical infrastructure project.
