Shooting Involving Iredell County Deputy Under Investigation

by | Jul 1, 2025

On the afternoon of Monday, June 30, 2025, an Iredell County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a shooting incident outside the Family Dollar store located at 3338 Harmony Highway in Harmony, North Carolina.

The incident occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. when deputies responded to a call prompted by a family member expressing concern about the welfare of a male individual. According to Sheriff Darren Campbell, the man was armed with an edged weapon and attempting to enter the store when the deputy arrived.

To prevent the suspect from entering the building, the deputy used his patrol vehicle to block the entrance. Sheriff Campbell stated that the deputy issued repeated verbal commands instructing the suspect to drop the weapon. When those commands were not followed, the deputy deployed a Taser in an attempt to subdue the man. The Taser was ineffective.

The suspect reportedly continued toward the store, which was open to customers at the time. After repeated warnings, the deputy fired his weapon, striking the man. The suspect was transported to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem and was listed in stable condition as of Monday evening. The deputy was not injured during the incident.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) has been called in to conduct an independent investigation, which is standard procedure following officer-involved shootings. The deputy involved has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Sheriff Campbell emphasized the importance of protecting the public in rapidly evolving situations and said the deputy acted to prevent an armed individual from entering a location where customers were present.

Further details are expected to be released as the investigation continues.
