Sheriff Warns of Phone Scam Targeting Iredell County Residents

by | Aug 22, 2025

Authorities are warning Iredell County residents about a recent phone scam in which callers impersonate law enforcement officers.

In recent days, scammers have used personal information, spoofed local numbers, and made threats of arrest or criminal charges. Some callers have even claimed that artificial intelligence software is monitoring the call. Victims are told they must send money immediately to avoid arrest.

In some cases, the callers instruct individuals to drive to the Sheriff’s Office to make the scheme appear legitimate but then redirect them elsewhere while they are on the way.

Officials emphasize that neither the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office nor any other law enforcement agency will demand payment by phone. Residents are urged to hang up and verify any such calls by contacting the Sheriff’s Office directly at 704-878-3180.
