Mooresville, N.C. — A group of demonstrators gathered outside Classy Critters Pet Resort & Spa on Brawley School Road Tuesday, voicing concerns about the treatment of animals at the pet care facility.
The protest included former customers, pet owners, and animal advocates, many of whom shared personal stories involving incidents that they say occurred while their pets were under the facility’s care. Protesters held signs and expressed frustration over what they described as a pattern of neglect, injuries, and poor oversight.
One former customer recounted an incident from several years ago when her dog was allegedly injured during a grooming appointment. She also reported a separate case involving another family pet that escaped from the facility, was struck by a vehicle, and remained missing for days before being found.
A more recent case involved a dog that reportedly ran through two unsecured doors at the business. According to the owner, the pet was later found with minor injuries. He said the facility paid for veterinary care.
A former employee participating in the protest claimed she witnessed mistreatment of animals during her time working at the salon. She said she left her position after an incident in which the owner allegedly struck a dog.
Tuesday’s protest comes amid an ongoing investigation into the business. Law enforcement officials recently executed a search warrant at the facility and seized materials related to allegations of animal cruelty. One employee was arrested and charged with multiple counts of felony animal abuse in connection with videos that allegedly show the mistreatment of animals.
The owner of the facility declined to comment when approached on Tuesday.
Protesters are urging additional oversight of local pet boarding and grooming businesses and encouraging others with similar experiences to come forward. Some are calling for measures such as required GPS tracking for boarded pets to prevent escapes and improve safety.
The investigation remains ongoing.
