Progress continues on Statesville’s Waterline Replacement Project

Statesville, NC – The City of Statesville reports that about 20 percent of its ongoing Waterline Replacement Project has been completed. Work along Water Street and North Center Street is nearly finished, with only tie-in connections and final paving remaining. Crews have since moved eastward and made progress on Stockton Street, expecting to reach beyond the Municipal Complex and Harrill Street by late October as work continues toward the five-points area and Brookdale Drive connection.

The bore under Interstate 40 has been completed and is prepared for the installation of a 24-inch water pipe during the week of October 13. Once in place, this section will connect with existing pipe installed under Morrison Creek from the city’s water treatment plant. Work along Brookdale Drive has advanced to the Hartness Road intersection, and with this phase nearly complete, disruptions near Iredell Memorial Hospital are expected to lessen soon.

As crews replace older infrastructure, they have uncovered deteriorated or undocumented water, sewer, and storm drain lines due to the age of the system. City and contractor teams have worked to minimize service interruptions while making repairs and replacements as needed.

Further south, the bore beneath the Norfolk Southern railroad has been completed, and work on the final bore at U.S. 21 and Third Creek will begin soon. City officials thanked residents for their patience as the project continues to enhance the city’s water system for the future.
