STATESVILLE, N.C. — The Statesville Police Department is investigating a disturbing incident that occurred Monday evening involving a doll found hanging near a political campaign sign.

On September 15, 2025, at 5:38 p.m., officers responded to a report of suspicious activity at the intersection of Wilson Lee Boulevard and Fayetteville Avenue. When they arrived, officers met with the owner of a nearby property, who reported discovering a doll suspended from a street sign with a rope around its neck.

The doll was positioned above an election sign for Doris Allison, the Ward 3 City Council representative. The property owner told officers they believed the doll was intentionally placed at the site to target Allison and considered the act to be a hate crime.

Investigators seized the doll and the materials used to suspend it as evidence. The case has been assigned to the SPD Criminal Investigations Division, which is working alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The investigation remains active. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Statesville Police Department at 704-878-3518. Tips can also be submitted anonymously through the SPD website at police.statesvillenc.net using the “See Something, Say Something” contact form.
