CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Carolina Panthers secured their first win of the season Sunday, shutting out the Atlanta Falcons 30–0 in their home opener at Bank of America Stadium.
The Panthers’ defense dominated, forcing three turnovers and limiting Atlanta to just 5-of-16 on third and fourth downs. Chau Smith-Wade returned an interception for a touchdown in the third quarter, and another key interception helped set up additional scoring opportunities.
On offense, Carolina was efficient. Quarterback Bryce Young ran for a short touchdown and passed for 121 yards while avoiding mistakes after two turnover-heavy games to open the season. Rookie kicker Ryan Fitzgerald added three field goals, including a 57-yarder, and Rico Dowdle scored a rushing touchdown late in the game.
The Falcons struggled throughout the contest, with quarterback Michael Penix Jr. throwing two interceptions before being replaced in the fourth quarter. Their offense failed to sustain drives, and special teams miscues added to their difficulties.
With the win, the Panthers move to 1-2 on the season. Their next game is on the road against the New England Patriots.
