Statesville, NC – The Statesville Police Department continues its investigation into a shooting that occurred in the parking lot of the Walmart located at 1116 Crossroads Drive on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
Officers responded to the scene around 1:35 p.m. after receiving reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, they located a vehicle in the parking lot that had been struck by gunfire. Multiple shell casings were also recovered in the area. No injuries were reported.
Initial findings indicated that the individuals involved had been connected to a shoplifting incident inside the store shortly before the shooting occurred. After reviewing surveillance footage and speaking with witnesses, investigators were able to identify a suspect vehicle that had fled the scene prior to law enforcement’s arrival.
The Statesville Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division located the suspect vehicle at a nearby residence. One individual believed to be involved in the incident was still present at the location and was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect, identified as 18-year-old Keandre Terrell Cauthen of Statesville, has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm into occupied property and one count of misdemeanor larceny. He is being held at the Iredell County Detention Center on a $100,000 secured bond.
Investigators are continuing their efforts to identify and locate a second individual believed to have been involved in the incident.
