A public demonstration known as “No Kings Day” is scheduled to take place in downtown Statesville on Saturday, June 14. The event is part of a broader, nationwide series of protests organized under the banner of the “Day of Defiance.”

The local gathering will begin at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Statesville Civic Center at the intersection of East Front and South Center streets. According to organizers, the demonstration is intended to express concerns about perceived government overreach, economic instability, and centralized political power.

The event is expected to feature several speakers, including Ashley Bell, a declared Democratic candidate for North Carolina’s 10th Congressional District. Organizers describe the event as a nonpartisan effort open to participants from across the political spectrum.

“No Kings Day” events are planned in various cities across the country, with similar demonstrations scheduled in other parts of North Carolina, including Charlotte and Newton. In Statesville, the protest is expected to continue into the afternoon, with activities planned from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. as part of the coordinated national schedule.

Organizers have emphasized that the demonstration is intended to be peaceful and law-abiding, with a focus on civic participation and public expression. Attendees are encouraged to bring signs and share their views on issues they believe are impacting their communities.

As of now, local officials have not announced any planned road closures or public safety advisories related to the event. Police presence is expected to be on-site to ensure public safety and to facilitate the free exercise of First Amendment rights.
