“No Kings” Day Protest Draws Dozens in Statesville and Mooresville

Iredell County, NC – June 14, 2025 — Local residents gathered Saturday morning across Iredell County to participate in the national “No Kings Day of Defiance” protests, aimed at opposing authoritarian tendencies and advocating for democratic accountability.

In Statesville, more than 200 people assembled in front of the Civic Center at East Front Street and South Center Street. The rally began at 11 a.m. and continued through 1 p.m. A series of community speakers shared their perspectives on the need for transparency and public service from elected leaders. Police maintained a visible presence throughout, encouraging peaceful conduct and adherence to local laws around public gatherings and pedestrian access.

Meanwhile in Mooresville, a smaller group convened at the intersection of Brawley School Road and Williamson Road at 10 a.m. The gathering carried a similarly peaceful tone, with participants affirming their belief that the flag “belongs to the people,” rejecting displays of excessive power and calling for nonviolent resistance.

The protests in both towns were part of a coordinated effort that saw peaceful “No Kings” events nationwide. Organizers emphasized nonviolence and community engagement as central to the movement’s mission. The locations in both Statesville and Mooresville included marshals and de-escalation measures to ensure a safe environment for participants and passersby.

Local law enforcement reinforced their commitment to protecting peaceful assembly, with officers stationed near protest sites to monitor compliance with public safety and traffic regulations. No arrests or major disturbances were reported.
