A North Carolina State Trooper riding a motorcycle was involved in a collision Tuesday afternoon in Mooresville, according to authorities.
The incident occurred around 3:45 p.m. in the 2000 block of U.S. 21 near N.C. 115. The road was partially closed for two hours while emergency crews responded.
Officials say the collision happened when a 2002 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Westley Allen Newton, 38, of Mooresville, attempted to turn left out of a gas station parking lot. The Tacoma turned in front of a southbound Highway Patrol BMW motorcycle, leading to the crash.
The trooper sustained minor injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Newton was not injured and has been charged with failure to yield the right of way. Authorities report that neither speed nor impairment were contributing factors in the collision.
The State Highway Patrol reminds drivers to remain vigilant and cautious when navigating intersections to avoid accidents. The investigation remains ongoing.
