Iredell County, NC — On Monday, law enforcement agencies across North Carolina began participation in the statewide “Move Over or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The safety initiative is aimed at raising awareness about the state’s Move Over Law, which requires drivers to slow down and change lanes—when safe to do so—when approaching emergency vehicles, tow trucks, or roadside utility crews displaying flashing lights.
The campaign, organized in collaboration with public safety and transportation officials, emphasizes the importance of protecting first responders and roadside workers operating in hazardous conditions close to moving traffic.
Under North Carolina law, failure to comply with the Move Over rule can result in fines and penalties. Authorities encourage motorists to remain attentive, reduce speed, and change lanes when approaching stopped vehicles with flashing lights to help reduce the risk of roadside collisions.
Officials remind drivers that staying alert and following the law not only improves safety for emergency personnel but also reduces the likelihood of traffic-related injuries and fatalities.
