The Statesville Police Department is investigating a serious injury collision that occurred on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, around 7:08 p.m. at the intersection of Garner Bagnal Boulevard and Buffalo Shoals Road.
The incident involved a 1985 Honda motorcycle and a 1994 Dodge truck. Preliminary reports indicate that the Dodge truck, driven by 63-year-old Rickey Dishmond of Statesville, was heading west on Garner Bagnal Boulevard and attempting to turn left onto Buffalo Shoals Road. As the truck entered the intersection, the motorcycle, operated by 34-year-old Joseph Collins, also of Statesville, collided with the passenger side of the truck. Investigators report that Dishmond failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
Collins sustained serious injuries in the crash. He was initially taken to Iredell Memorial Hospital and was later airlifted to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Police stated that speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash. The Statesville Police Department’s Traffic Division continues to investigate and is asking anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision to contact the division at 704-878-3406.
