Mooresville, NC – In an effort to improve traffic safety and consistency, all traffic signals in the Town of Mooresville will be updated to display a flashing red light when in repair mode or affected by a power outage. This change comes at the direction of the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) and aims to ensure that drivers treat these intersections as four-way stops.
Currently, Mooresville’s traffic signals flash either red or yellow during outages or maintenance, depending on the direction of travel. This variation has led to potential confusion among drivers, increasing the risk of accidents. By standardizing all flashing signals to red, officials hope to create a clearer and safer driving experience.
The transition is already underway, with all traffic signals expected to be updated by July 1, 2025. Drivers are encouraged to remain alert and follow standard four-way stop procedures when encountering a flashing red signal.
