Mooresville to Honor Retiring Police K9s Kato and Ramon at Public Ceremony

by | May 29, 2025

The Town of Mooresville will host a special ceremony to recognize the retirements of two longtime police K9s, Kato and Ramon, in a public event scheduled for Monday, June 2, at 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place on the lawn of Mooresville Town Hall, located at 413 North Main Street.

Both K9s have served the community through years of dedicated law enforcement work alongside their handlers. K9 Ramon holds particular significance in the Mooresville community as the former partner of Officer Jordan Sheldon, who was killed in the line of duty in May 2019. Ramon was by Officer Sheldon’s side on the night of the tragic incident and has continued to serve the department with distinction.

K9 Kato has also played a vital role in public safety efforts, contributing to narcotics detection, suspect apprehension, and community outreach during his tenure with the Mooresville Police Department.

Town officials and members of the police department invite the public to attend the ceremony in appreciation of the service and commitment these K9 officers have provided to Mooresville and its residents. The event offers an opportunity for the community to show support and gratitude to both dogs as they move into retirement following years of loyal and active duty.

The ceremony is free and open to all members of the public.
