The Mooresville Police Department is alerting residents after receiving multiple reports of scammers moving through local neighborhoods and soliciting donations under the guise of supporting a “police association.” According to officials, the individuals involved have been handing out fraudulent business cards that falsely display the name and information of MPD Chief Ron Campurciani in an attempt to appear legitimate.
Police say the scammers are approaching residents directly and requesting monetary contributions, creating the impression that the donations will support law enforcement initiatives. The department stressed that neither Chief Campurciani nor the Mooresville Police Department is affiliated with any such fundraising effort, and no authorized personnel are conducting door-to-door donation drives.
Authorities are urging community members to remain cautious when approached by anyone requesting money, especially if the individual claims to represent a law enforcement organization. Residents should verify any fundraising effort directly with the agency before providing personal information or making a donation.
Anyone who encounters these individuals or receives similar solicitations is asked to contact the Mooresville Police Department immediately at 704-664-3311. Officials hope that quick reporting will help identify the scammers and prevent further victimization within the community.
