Mooresville Man Arrested in Florida on Child Sex Offense Charges

MOORESVILLE, N.C. (October 16, 2025) – A Mooresville man has been arrested in Florida and is awaiting extradition to North Carolina on multiple charges of sexual offenses involving children, according to Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell.

Sheriff Campbell identified the suspect as Luis Alberto Sosa, 50, of Mooresville. The alleged crimes occurred between May 2002 and June 2008 and involve two Argentinian nationals who were between the ages of 13 and 17 at the time.

On August 12, 2025, Detective R. Olson with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit received information regarding multiple historical sexual offenses against the minors. Investigators learned that Sosa, a missionary pastor from Argentina, had brought the victims to the United States under the false pretense of participating in a religious ministry and a “once-in-a-lifetime” trip. Sosa had been granted temporary guardianship of the children during their travels.

Authorities say that during a two-month period, Sosa allegedly committed several sexual offenses while the minors were in his care. The case was first reported to Argentinian authorities and later forwarded to Iredell County through the Argentinian Consulate, prompting a joint investigation between agencies in both countries.

As the investigation continued, detectives determined that Sosa had left North Carolina and traveled to Florida. Detective Olson obtained arrest warrants and a nationwide extradition order. Working with the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office in Florida, deputies located and arrested Sosa without incident.

Sosa is currently being held without bond in Florida as he awaits extradition back to Iredell County. Authorities say he has no known prior criminal history.

“This investigation demonstrates how critical collaboration between agencies is in bringing fugitives to justice,” Sheriff Campbell said. “We thank the Argentinian authorities and the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance.”
