Mooresville Man Arrested After Vehicle Fire Incident

MOORESVILLE, NC – On July 24, 2025, Mooresville Police Department officers responded to a report of an active vehicle fire. Upon arrival, officers and a Mooresville Fire-Rescue fire marshal determined that the fire had been intentionally set.

The investigation identified Clayton Morrison Broyhill, 27, of Mooresville, as the suspect. A victim was inside the vehicle when the fire was started but was able to escape without serious injuries. Arrest warrants were obtained for Broyhill shortly after the incident.

On July 28, 2025, Mooresville Police detectives, along with the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, located Broyhill and attempted to serve the warrants. After refusing to exit the residence, MPD’s Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiation Team were activated. Officers were able to safely negotiate Broyhill’s surrender.

Broyhill was arrested and charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Burning Personal Property, Communicating Threats, and a Misdemeanor Crime of Domestic Violence. Following a search of the residence, he was also charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.

He is currently being held at the Iredell County Jail without bond.
