On the morning of June 19, 2025, a routine traffic stop in Troutman led to the arrest of a local man after officers discovered illegal substances inside the vehicle.
At approximately 10:00 a.m., officers stopped a vehicle on Perry Road for an expired registration plate. While the initial officer conducted the stop, a K9 officer with the department’s K9 unit performed a free air sniff around the vehicle. K9 Luka alerted to the odor of narcotics near the front fender.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of methamphetamine hidden in a void behind the fender well in the engine compartment. A bag of marijuana was also found.
The driver, Dennis Miller, 62, of Troutman, was arrested and charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken before a magistrate and placed under a $5,000 secured bond.
