Man Faces Upgraded Charges in Fatal Iredell County Crash

Charges have been upgraded against a man arrested in connection with a deadly crash last month in Iredell County.

Following further investigation and consultation with the Iredell County District Attorney’s Office, 31-year-old Benjamin Wesley Overton of Walkertown has been charged with two counts of aggravated felony death by vehicle and two counts of second-degree murder.

The crash occurred on Saturday, April 19, at approximately 10:10 p.m. on I-77 South near mile marker 62. According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, a 2006 Ford F-250 driven by Overton struck a southbound 2023 Kia Sportage. Both vehicles then left the roadway, hit a guardrail, and the Kia overturned.

The driver of the Kia, 47-year-old Jessica Lyndsay Horton of Mooresville, and a passenger, 47-year-old Patricia Marie Osorno, also of Mooresville, were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Overton was not injured in the crash.
