Kia Recalls Over 80,000 Electric and Hybrid Vehicles Due to Airbag Concerns

by | Jan 27, 2025

Kia is recalling more than 80,000 of its electric and hybrid vehicles due to potential airbag issues, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) announced last week.

The recall includes 2023-2025 models of the Niro EV, Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV), and Hybrid vehicles. According to a January 17 statement, “The floor wiring assembly [of recalled vehicles] beneath the front passenger seat may become damaged, which can prevent the front airbags and seat belts from deploying properly or cause an unintended side curtain airbag deployment.”

Kia has notified affected vehicle owners and is providing a free repair at authorized dealerships. Vehicle owners are encouraged to visit the NHTSA website or contact Kia customer service for more information on the recall and how to schedule repairs.

The NHTSA advises drivers of affected vehicles to address the issue promptly to ensure safety.
