Juvenile Taken into Custody in Iredell County Arson Investigation

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office has taken a juvenile into custody in connection with an arson investigation following a mobile home fire in northern Iredell County.

According to authorities, deputies responded shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, to a report of a suspicious fire at a residence on Butch Branch Road. When deputies arrived, local fire departments had already extinguished the blaze, but the mobile home was completely destroyed.

The Iredell County Fire Marshal’s Office determined that the fire appeared to have been intentionally set. Detectives at the scene collected evidence, interviewed neighbors, and reviewed surveillance footage from nearby properties. Investigators obtained video showing a male suspect running from the area shortly after the fire began.

Through further investigation, detectives identified the individual in the footage as a 16-year-old juvenile who lives nearby. The juvenile was located and interviewed by detectives, during which time he admitted to setting the fire.

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is continuing its investigation and is working with the Department of Juvenile Justice to pursue charges related to the incident
