Iredell County, NC — The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) has once again awarded accreditation to Iredell Memorial Hospital’s main laboratory in Statesville, North Carolina. This recognition follows a recent on-site inspection conducted as part of CAP’s Accreditation Programs.

CAP accreditation is known for its rigorous standards, designed to enhance quality and reduce risks in laboratory settings. By maintaining these high standards, accredited laboratories contribute to improved patient outcomes. The laboratory’s director, Dr. Asha C. Sigei, was notified of the facility’s global recognition and commended for its commitment to excellence. Iredell Memorial Hospital is among more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

Dr. Sigei credited the laboratory team’s dedication and expertise for achieving reaccreditation. “Our highly trained team, including certified phlebotomists and medical technologists, consistently upholds thousands of detailed laboratory standards, procedures, and policies,” she said. “I am also grateful for the continuous support from hospital administration, ensuring we have state-of-the-art laboratory equipment. Kudos to the entire team.”

Hospital leadership also expressed appreciation for the laboratory’s achievement.

“The laboratory team at Iredell Health System continually strives to meet or exceed the highest quality and safety standards set by CAP,” said Mark Berry, Laboratory Director. “I am honored to work alongside our pathologists, medical technologists, technicians, histologists, phlebotomists, and specimen processors. Our success is also made possible through strong support from administration and management.”

Joshua Self, Vice President of Operations, highlighted the team’s commitment to patient care. “Our lab’s successful CAP reaccreditation is a reflection of the dedication and expertise of our incredible staff. Their hard work ensures we maintain the highest standards of quality. We appreciate the trust and support from our community.”

As part of the CAP accreditation process, inspectors review laboratory records, quality control procedures, staff qualifications, equipment, safety protocols, and overall management. These evaluations ensure laboratories operate in alignment with the latest best practices.

The CAP, which has more than 23,000 participating laboratories, provides accreditation, proficiency testing, quality improvement tools, and guidelines to support laboratory excellence. Through its pathologist-led programs, CAP works with laboratories worldwide to promote diagnostic confidence and high-quality patient care.
