Statesville, NC — Iredell Health System recently celebrated individuals who have dedicated between 5 to 50 years of service to the community through their work within the health system, totaling 4,200 combined years.

Employees celebrating 5,10, and 15 years were treated to an ice cream social served by members of administration during the workday. Those celebrating 20 years and beyond enjoyed a celebratory dinner at the Statesville Country Club, including an awards presentation dinner, dessert, and music bingo led by Dr. Joseph Mazzola, Vice President of Medical Affairs. Melanie Sleime, Assistant Vice President of Human Resources, opened with surprising trivia about Iredell Health System, which just celebrated 71 years of healing in May.

“The health system is older than the internet, the Superbowl, space missions, and The Rolling Stones. We hold dear to our values and tonight, we have a chance to thank you to those that made it happen,” she said. All employees presented with service awards will also receive a special gift as a token of appreciation for their dedicated service.

Shellie Brown, Assistant Director of Radiation Therapy, celebrated 35 years. “Working for IHS has been a deeply fulfilling journey for me,” said Brown. “It has allowed me to witness and contribute to the evolution of healthcare and to be part of countless stories of hope and healing. The relationships I’ve built with colleagues and patients have enriched my life, and I’ve always been passionate about making a positive impact on people’s lives during some of their most vulnerable moments. Ultimately, my dedication to serving others and making a difference has been the driving force behind my long tenure here!”

Cindy Gibson, Assistant Director of The Birth Place, was also recognized for 35 years of service. “Not only do I love helping to bring new life into the world, but the team of people I work with is like family to me,” shared Gibson. “Over the years, I have seen many team members come onboard. Some stay for a long time and some may move on or retire. But once a part of The Birth Place, you are a part of our team and family. I recently was reminded that I took care of a baby that is now an employee here. I gave her first bath. That makes me smile.”

Five employees celebrated more than 40 years of service and were recognized with flowers and kind words from their directors. These employees are:
40 Years| Pam Speight: The Birth Place
45 Years Jacqueline Wellman: Endoscopy Penny Gaither: Outpatient Surgery Ray Clark: Information Systems
50 Years Mary Mallory: Pharmacy

Iredell Health System’s mission is to Inspire Wellbeing — Together. It would not have been possible without the dedication of these tenured employees. Congratulations.
