by | Dec 15, 2025

The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office is alerting the public to a scam involving the misuse of the Sheriff’s Office youth athletic program information. A flyer and social media posts circulating are NOT affiliated with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities have learned that this scam typically targets vendors who are looking to set up at events. Scammers conduct extensive research, track event schedules, and then contact vendors with fraudulent requests for payment. They prey on vendors, knowing that these individuals rely on event opportunities to make a living.

In this specific instance, vendors have received fraudulent emails and phone calls. Scammers go to great lengths to make their interactions appear legitimate, requesting payments via electronic payment apps such as PayPal, Zelle, or other peer-to-peer services. This type of payment request should be considered suspicious, as it is not a standard or approved method for such transactions.

Key Safety Tips:

  • The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office will never solicit vendor fees or payments in this manner.
  • Be cautious of unsolicited messages requesting payment or personal information.
  • Avoid paying through PayPal, Zelle, or similar services unless you are certain the request is legitimate.
  • If you are unsure, contact the event organizer directly before sending any money.
